Never the one to disappoint, acclaimed fashion photographer Viviane Sassen delivers another fun, eclectic and somewhat surreal shoot for Missoni’s Spring/Summer 2014 campaign. Supermodel Christy Turlington poses among bold and unusual geometric shapes in the desert of the Canary Islands while wearing some elegant and sophisticated dresses by the Italian brand.
This shoot is a spectacular collaboration of minds. Missoni is known particularly for its bold shapes, zigzags, designs, lines, patterns, and multiple types of knits for its ensembles. The Dutch-born Sassen has been highly praised as the next iconic fashion photographer, which has a lot to do with the fact that her fashion photography transcends the normal parameters of the industry. Her photographs dabble somewhere into the world of fine-art, as she experiments with brilliant color, plays with space within the frame, and uses the human body as a sculpturesque form.
Sassen’s compelling work complements the Missoni brand quite well, as she brings out the shapes within the clothing in an almost surreal way — floating among the desert-like landscape, these shapes appear in every photo with Turlington, either behind her as a backdrop or omnisciently as they cast a shadow upon her face.
