This long-time autumn staple is getting a spring makeover. Metallic makeup shone bright on the face of model Kelly Mittendorf, complete with gilded eyebrows and glossy bronze lips. While some of the beauty featured (like those tinsel-laden eyebrows) might seem a bit adventurous outside of an editorial, Marie Claire showed off some seriously wearable metallic looks that won’t weigh you down during spring weather.

Makeup artist Vicky Steckel indulged in products from MAC and Stila, making Mittendorf’s cheekbones glow under her expert touch. Shimmery rose gold shadow found its way into most of her looks. The ethereal pink shade is the epitome of a springtime metallic, the perfect mix of femininity and glam, and the Maybelline New York Eye Studio Color Tattoo Metal in Barely Branded used proved that the look is as affordable as it’s pretty. Photographer Markus Pritzi chose a blank white background that made the makeup reflect as much light as possible, while stylist Lotta Volkova dressed the model in a few metallic pieces. The standout would have to be that stunning deep bronze Lanvin top, coordinating with a dramatic lip created by layering L’Oréal Infallible 24HR Eye Shadow in Gilded Envy over MAC Prep + Prime Lip.

Marie Claire lightened up these heavy metals to make them ready for spring, proving that gunmetal smokey eyes are appropriate for any season: it all depends on the smudging.
