We’re beginning to feel really old…
18 years ago today, the Spice Girls (A.K.A. the greatest British girl-band to ever exist) released their first single, “Wannabe,” in the United Kingdom. To us, it feels like yesterday that we were singing about how “friendship never ends,” and telling the story “from A to Z.” Turns out that was back in 1996. How crazy?!
As we re-watch the “Wannabe” music video and reminisce on the simpler times of CDs and walkmen, we realize that the most striking change over the past 18 years has been the fashion. Remember Sporty Spice’s brightly colored track pants and clashing sports bras? We can’t help but cringe a little at Ginger Spice’s sparkly unitards. Scary Spice reminded us of how cool it was to rock the au-naturel look with a tight tank top. Who could forget Baby Spice’s bangs and pigtails? Of course, Victoria Beckham is the only Spice Girl who manages to stay relevant in a simple black dress and heels. We knew Posh Spice was our favorite.
It’s hard to believe 18 years have passed since the Spice Girl glory days. But if you’re in denial, don’t worry about being the only one…

No matter how weird you might find these outfits now, try to remember how cool you thought you were rocking ridiculous platform sneakers and pigtail buns! And for old time’s sake, slam your body down and zig-a-zig-aaahh.
