Skyn Iceland has been advertised as “solutions for stressed skin” so where better than to sell it than at the legendary Henri Bendel’s, right in the heart of Fifth Avenue where the arguably the world’s most stressed people work and shop?

Skyn Iceland was started by Sarah Kugelman, a former senior marketing director at Banana Republic’s fragrance division, Bath & Body Works, L’Oreal and Bloomingdale’s and who wanted to start the line because she not only suffered with a lot of skin disorders in the past including scarring but because she thinks that Iceland is the ultimate land of stress-free living. I was lucky to be invited to the launch in Bendel’s a couple of weeks ago.  I was impressed that the products are free of all parabens, petroleum, mineral oil, sulfates and phthalates and are 100 per cent vegetarian/cruelty free. The “secret” to the line is Biospheric Complex, a blend that includes Iceland’s glacial water, Artic Berries and Butterfly Bush. There are also oxygenated liposomes and thyme extracts thrown in for added natural anti-aging and healing properties.

So far, I have been enjoying the four products I took home from the launch event:

1) Artic Face Mist With Multivitamin Complex ($29) gives skin back its natural balance and has a soft, fresh, pleasantly antiseptic scent. It’s got every vitamin you can name including A, B, C and E and a highly healing plant called Angelica Archangelica, a relative of ginseng only found in Iceland. It is used as a toner or to set makeup.

2) The Antidote Cooling Daily Lotion ($45)—this lotion to use after cleansing and toning is truly an antidote for stress-related breakouts and for skin that is looking old thanks to stress.  It features Omega 3, 6 and 9 to preserve moisture and includes the antibacterial protection offered by White Willow Bark. The aforementioned Angelica Archangelica is also used here to prevention infection

3) Glacial Cleansing Cloths ($15) are for use morning and night to provide foaming cleaning without water and to remove makeup in the process. They are convenient and great for travel and have a soft, cucumber type of scent. Ingredients include Coconut Oil, oat and amino acid-based surfactants to provide antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

4) Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels ($30) are gel-lined pads that are left under the eyes for 10 minutes. They restore tone and firmness and protect against future damage with Gingko Biloba Leaf Extract and Biospheric Complex.  Hydrolyzed Elastic helps firm up the under eye area and I saw immediate results after using for the first time. My under eye “half-moon” lines seemed reduced by at least 25 per cent.

I would highly recommend this unusual line—you actually do feel relaxed after using it! And I will say that it has shown to be an antidote for my particular skin problem (light to moderate adult acne with a little too much shine)!
