If you’re going to take the plunge and dye your hair, you might as well do it in a colorful and beautiful way. Say farewell to the  ombré and bayalage highlight trend because this new trend is taking over!

The latest hair craze is sand art hair which is also known as “My Little Pony Hair.” It’s basically defined by having magically blended rainbow hair. To achieve this look, you don’t just dye parts of your hair different colors, instead the stylist paints different sections (including top, middling and bottom), with multiple colors that will blend into each other, giving it dare we say, a more natural, colorful look. Very, similar to practicing sand art.

So, essentially, the difference between sand art hair and straight up rainbow hair is the way the colors bleed into each other. I can only imagine how long it takes to complete one person’s sand art hair. Yikes. Sand art hair styles range from pastel rainbows to fully saturated looks. It seems mostly fashion bloggers, models and YouTubers are the ones taking the plunge into the colorful abyss.

You might be wondering how this trend is even possible — how do the colors not just all blend together and turn into a murky and gross hybrid color? The hair company PRAVANA just changed the entire hair game by creating a product called VIVIDS Locked In that prevents colors from rubbing off and transferring to other strands while still also allowing colors to blend.

This new hair dye allows for serious precision and no color bleeds is sure to give us more trends in the future. Even striped hair can be done now! Maybe that’s the next trend?

As much as I’m in love with this trend and wish I could wake up looking like a candy mermaid every morning, the idea of performing any dye maintenance on this hair makes me grateful that my hair is boring and brown.

Would you ever try the sand art hair trend?
