Big news, Project Runway fans – according to The Hollywood Reporter, your fave reality TV fashion competition is about to launch a kid-friendly spin-off series called Threads. Hosted by Project Runway Season 4 winner Christian Siriano along with Vanessa Simmons from the 2005 MTV series Run’s House, the show will essentially be a teen mini-me of Project Runway, showcasing three of America’s most talented young aspiring designers competing head to head every week.
But forget the safety-scissors and crazy glue, there’s nothing juvenile about this competition, which will feature judges such as Seventeen magazine’s Fashion Director Gina Kelly and Accessories Editor Jasmine Snow, as well as prize package worth a whopping $25,000. Cha-ching. This includes a scholarship to the renowned Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles (FIDM), $10,000 to be spent at JoAnn’s Fabrics & Crafts, and a complete, top of the line sewing studio complements of Brother International Corporation. Not too shabby, kiddos.
Lifetime network has ordered eight episodes of the series thus far, but we have a feeling it will be around for a while. Project Runway never seems to disappoint, from the designers’ sheer creativity, to the – guilty pleasure alert – drama, and hilarious characters (who could forget Santino’s hilarious impression of Tim Gunn in season 2); and we expect nothing less from the junior version of the show. No word on when the show is set to air, but we’re positive that the young talent in Threads will make it work.
