Up and coming model Sophie Vlaming started modeling in 2008 and first appeared in an advertisement for Tuscan Soul by Ferragamo. Since then she’s been in advertisements for Hoobs, Escada S Fragrance, Bommerang, David Bitton and Deni Cler. She’s been in editorials for Vogue Portugal, Flair, Elle Sweden, UK and Germany, Lula Magazine and Test Mag. Vlaming has also been featured on the covers of Vogue Portugal, Flair, and Harpar’s Bazaar Romania. Hans van Brakel’s recent work includes Marie Claire Summer, Linda Mode, Tosca, Safari and Lev. You can view his amazing portfolio on his website.
This photoshoot titled “Hortus botanicus” or “Botanic Garden” shows the strengths of can Brakel’s photography skills which definitely includes use and mastery over natural light. All the photos are in full color, but don’t overwhelm the eye. The clothes are complimented by the same accent colors in the surrounding area, but don’t get lost in the picture. It’s also nice that Brakel makes use of depth, choosing to shoot some photos flat and others with props in front of Vlaming. It’s refreshing to see some photos where Vlaming is in her element, as if it’s an impromptu photo, and others where the scene has more of a family photo feel. The photo set definitely has a vintage feel, but is shown with a modern twist thanks to the refreshed patterns, cuts and fearless mix-matching. It’s obvious that patterns are the highlight of this expansive summer collection from Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Monk, Pinko, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Marni, Dior, Dondup, Ginette_NY, Lapponia and Hermes.
The photo shoot tells the story of a young woman all dressed up with nowhere to go but her gorgeous multi-acre estate in the middle of summer. It’s a tough life, but somebody has to do it.
