The March 2014 edition of Details Magazine is “the fashion issue” and with this, comes the switch up from a male celebrity on the cover to male models. This is always a switch up that is different, but we are certainly not complaining. The models on this cover are some of the most successful in the world. These men are absolutely stunning. Like most fashion/lifestyle magazines, Details traditionally has male actors, athletes and music artists on their cover. Dan Peres, the magazine’s editor in chief, tells Business of Fashion: “Men are their own tastemakers now and the Details Magazine reader doesn’t necessarily need to see it on an actor or an athlete in order to find a way to connect with fashion.”
And it’s a timely cover. The luxury menswear market is currently exploding and expected to be worth $18 billion by 2016. “This guy has evolved and the luxury fashion houses are marketing much more to him” says Peres.”To showcase fashion on fashion models really sharpens the focus and puts the focus on fashion. This is what they are paid to do; this is why they are paid to do it. They look great in these clothes. It becomes a stronger statement.”
Americans though, are so used to actors on their men’s magazines, it’s jarring not to see a George Clooney-type staring back at them. How will men respond to the magazines wager?
