Paul McCartney and Dave Grohl

We love Nirvana. We love the Beatles. But some strange, otherworldly intersection of the two is what will allegedly be going down at Madison Square Garden tonight.

Yes, it’s Nirvana, starring Paul McCartney as the late, great Kurt Cobain.

If your head is still intact, read on.

Tonight, at the titanically huge Hurricane Sandy benefit at Madison Square Garden, original members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl will be joined by Macca himself.

“I didn’t really know who they were,” the 70-year-old Beatles legend told The Sun. “They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said, ‘Whoa? You guys haven’t played together for all that time? And somebody whispered to me, ‘That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.”

Somehow we can’t imagine that this is just a coincidence and not indicative of some larger cosmic chaos. 12/12/12? The alleged end of the world just around the corner? Sounds like just the thing that might be precipitated by Paul McCartney singing “Come As You Are.”

In a word? Yikes.

The 12-12-12 concert kicks off tonight and will be live streaming at http://www.121212concert.org/ from 7:30 EST.
