Good news. After a heady fall of being incredibly on-trend, emerald green is finally getting some more official recognition.
Yes, the Pantone Color Institute have named the jewel-tone 2013 Color of the Year.
According to the Institute’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman: “The entire green family has been so strong, upcoming through the ’90s as we’re paying attention to nature, so the family isn’t new, but what we needed to look at and revisit was the psychological background: Emerald is such a balanced color, and balance is something to pick up on and listen to. It’s a color of growth, renewal, healing, unity and regeneration – words we’re all so in need of at this point of history.”
Twice a year, the Pantone Institute hosts two highly enigmatic meetings. Global representatives from color standards groups attend. When the two days are up, they have chosen the color that will inspire many a fashion collection, home design company and paintmaker.
It’s also safe to expect an emerald inspired Sephora x Pantone collaboration like this year’s tangerine collection. We’re pretty excited at the prospect of some brilliant green eye shadows or mascara…
While the whole thing’s no great surprise–as we said, Allsaints, Balmain, e’rybody all over the rich greens–but we’re pleased nonetheless.
