Kazantsev was crowned the winner on Sunday night, making her the third Miss New York to be chosen three years in a row. The 23-year-old blonde beauty originally hails from California, but moved to New York five years ago to attend Hosfra University and has stayed put to attend Fordham University’s Law School, although her plans may now be changed after winning the title.
It’s easy to see why Kazantsev won. Not only is she clearly beautiful, but girl’s got brains too. She has a degree in Political Science, Global Studies and Geography. She speaks three languages (Spanish, Russian and English) and she’s perfected “Cups” from Pitched Perfect to the Pharrell song “Happy” — what’s not to love?
She’s also made domestic violence her speaking platform for the night as she admitted to being in a abusive relationship during college. “I want people to stop asking, ‘Why doesn’t she just leave?'” Kazantsev said. “Every woman is an expert in her own case, and there are so many extenuating circumstances that lead to a woman staying with her abuser.”
Kazantsev will now have the duties of traveling around America visiting schools, attending fundraisers and spreading awareness. Not to mention the parades, television show appearances and events she’ll be going to in 2015. Join us as we wish Kira all the best on her journey, and way to go New York on that treepeat.
