We’re not entirely sure what aesthetic Milla Jovovich’s stylist was going for here, but whatever it is, the Ukranian beauty rocks it. Photographer Gilles-Marie Zimmerman captured a somewhat scantily-clad Milla for the August 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar Hong Kong.
Stylist Alvin Goh dressed the 37-year-old Resident Evil actress in black for the entire shoot, each outfit more revealing than the last. We especially love the plunging neckline and rhinestone-adorned shoulders on her cover dress. Goh took a similar approach with another outfit, with a black shawl covering gold and silver-accented straps. The metallic and jewel tones are much subtler than a pop of color would have been, allowing Milla herself to remain the focus of the photo.
The one exception was a gender-bending ensemble featuring Milla in a white button-up, black blazer and tomboy hair style. Amidst the masculine vibe of the outfit, the pearl adornments are a perfect reflection of the type of strong femininity she’s displaying here: beautiful to look at, but tough as hell to crack.
Despite some interesting accessory choices (what exactly is that giant black lace disc all about?), Milla maintains the seductive glamour we all know and love her for. Between the lace bra, black leather skirt and sky-high Mary Jane style pumps, she may as well be a pinup poster. And yet, in the same shoot, Milla shows her softer side: “With all I do in my various careers, it’s my new role as a Mother the most rewarding [sic],” Harper’s Bazaar quotes.
Perhaps Goh was going for the “Madonna/whore” dichotomy? We can’t be positive, but we do know we love it either way. Check out Milla’s HB spread:
