Miley Cyrus is currently at the center of media attention for her recent attention-grabbing stunts, such as her controversial VMAs performance, her affinity to sticking her tongue out at any opportunity she can get, and her risque photoshoots with Terry Richardson. All of this attention is Miley’s goal, and she has been balancing out some of her more outlandish behaviors with a few more mild appearances, like her appearance on SNL (which was pretty funny) and this photoshoot for Canada’s Fashion Magazine’s 2013 November cover.
Photographed by Chris Nicholls and styled by Zeina Esmail, Miley is shown wearing some elegant pieces that, while still sexy and edgy, show her more classy and refined than usual. We all know how much Cyrus loves bodysuits, but by putting her in a less revealing version by Greta Constantine and having her keep her tongue inside her mouth, we see less of a rebellious young celebrity, and more of a grown-up star who is making smart career moves and showing her personality. We also liked the white floral and lace cutout body suit, much better than the mouse one from the VMAs.
Even though this shoot shows a classier Miley, she still maintains a lot of the edge she has been working towards creating for herself, and the leather ensemble she is pictured in shows this, while still capturing the more vulnerable side of which Cyrus often shows us a brief glimpse.
Her shot for the cover is absolutely stunning, and the black, knit cut-out gown by Kaufman Franco, covers Miley up, while still allowing her to show some skin without distracting us from her captivating stare. She has come a long way from the innocent little girl who starred in Hannah Montana, but her recent shenanigans are not just a cry for help, Miley is maturing, and these beautiful photographs remind us that she knows what she is doing, and only wants to be herself.
