Good, Lorde!
Ella Yelich-O’Connor AKA Lorde ditched her dark lipstick and cat eyes for a more glamorous look for Teen Vogue’s May issue. She looks flawless on the cover with pink lips, dark brows and warm blush. Her makeup was applied by Benjamin Puckey, who used perfect tones to highlight her features, like those gorgeous blue eyes.
This is the teen’s first mainstream American magazine cover. Inside the issue, she talks about things all 17-year-olds think about: Hilary Duff, her sister and peer pressure. “There are a lot of expectations in this industry about looking a certain way and having a certain kind of appeal,” she told the magazine. “I am feminine, but I really love dressing in boys’ clothes too. I guess that’s why I get labeled as ‘the grumpy girl,’ because I don’t play into that.”
Photographer Gregory Harris shot the starlet, who besides for the makeup, really didn’t play into any expectation of a Teen Vogue star. Take for example, her outfits. She wearing a plaid Marc Jacob‘s top on the cover chosen by stylist Tony Irvine. In another shot in a long black coat and sneakers — the interior where she’s standing isn’t bright and colorful, it’s a bit darker and grungier, but that doesn’t take away from the editorial, it enhances it and Lorde for that matter.
