Monday night marked the first night of Kathy Griffin taking reign of E!’s Fashion Police.
She had VERY big shoes to fill as we all were sizing her up to see if she could ever host like the late, great Joan Rivers. Overall, we were a bit disappointed in the first show. It didn’t really seem like Griffin cared much for anything but a joke, while Rivers was known as a bit of a fashion guru.
Griffin did try her best however, when it came to zingers about the Golden Globes. She had a mildly funny comment about Emma Stone, but the joke that really has everyone talking is about Amal Clooney, who ended up on the Worst Dress list. “Yeah, she’s annoying,” Griffin said. “You heard me! Everybody run in fear! I thought it was weird she had those gloves that remind me of, like, a porn scene, where the guy goes home and there’s the naughty dishwasher and she only has the gloves.”
Erm.
It prompted a few laughs we’re sure, and we agree the gloves weren’t the best choice, but Clooney was clearly going for a vintage Hollywood look, which Rivers would have picked up on immediately. Whether or not Joan would have approved, well, we’re not sure. But we are sure that if she had something negative to say, it would have gone in a funnier direction.
Griffin’s crude sort of a tone didn’t just stop with Clooney. She kind of based the whole show around near fashion disasters. “My inner gay-boy just loves it. I love the danger. I almost saw c**ch,” she said when referring to Jennifer Lopez’s dress.
For now, we’ll give Griffin a pass, but we and (Joan) will be watching!
