After Kate Upton skyrocketed to fame, she seemed unstoppable. HECK, she is unstoppable.
She’s gorgeous, unstoppable, and has even broken the mold in the fashion industry. Going from Sports Illustrated to high fashion is no easy feat and Upton was triumphant in just that. All too often, the fashion industry scoffs at girls with curves and “real bodies”. Excuses that come up circle mainly around how the clothes should be the attention grabber, not the model, slimmer girls are better at playing the part of “mannequin”, and even the (crazy) supposition that smaller girls, mean smaller samples, which equals less fabric to “waste” on mere samples. We get it. The fashion industry loves thin girls, and while we love all girls and think everyone is beautiful, it’s nice to see this switched up from time to time.
Kate Upton is fit, healthy, but undoubtedly does not lack in her “assets”. We applaud her for that. Even so she has modeled for high end designers and publications such as Vogue. On this Elle shoot, Kate shows us just how well she can wear clothes and even shows her personality.
This September 2013 spread has her wearing funky colored furs and vibrant, snug dresses. Wearing everything from Lanvin, Fendi, to Altuzarra, this fit girl shows that high fashion’s elitism is only for show and anyone can rock these frocks.
Her spread isn’t only about these glamourous outfits, though. Kate opens up about her personal life and how this journey has treated her, revealing that after her Sports Illustrated shoot (and multiple GIFs) she felt “terrible about herself”. Now, how could someone who’s received so much praise from men and women alike feel so “terrible”? Well, all that glitters is not gold. Kate Upton admitted to feeling like a piece of “meat” as opposed to a human being with feelings. While models are oftentimes looked at as props, Upton reiterates the importance of understanding that her job is modeling and acting as a “mannequin”, but it does not define her. She has hobbies, hopes, and a heart.
