Finally, the focus has been shifted from Kim and Kanye on the cover of Vogue to another family photo. The only difference is that this one is of actual royalty — not just the rulers of reality television.
Feast your eyes on the family portrait of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, more commonly known as Prince William and our favorite fashion icon, Kate Middleton. The couple posed with their 8-month-old son, Prince George, and black Cocker Spaniel, Lupo, at their Kensington Palace apartment. Kate is shown holding Prince George, her arms securely wrapped around his knitted blue sweater that has his name stitched in white. Next to them, Prince William has an arm around their pup. Prince George and Lupo look at each other with wonder, as mom and dad beam at the camera.
The photo was shot by photographer Jason Bell in mid-March just five months after he photographed their offical royal christening portraits in October. While we love the outside-looking-in perspective that the image’s angle gives us, we can’t help but wonder what gorgeous outfit Kate has hiding behind it.
Released this past Saturday, the image coincided with the U.K.’s celebration of Mother’s Day and traditionally marks the beginning of the family’s three week tour of New Zealand and Australia next month. The tour will begin on April 7 and last until about April 25. More importantly, it will be Prince George’s first official trip overseas.
Prince William and Kate Middleton followed the tradition of releasing a family portrait before a tour that was started by William’s parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, when they unveiled a shot of their son in Auckland, New Zealand back in 1983.
We’re hoping to see the couple release another family photo when they embark on their journey to Wellington, New Zealand on the 7th.
