It’s heartbreaking to announce that Fashion Police host Joan Rivers has died at the age of 81.
According to the Associated Press, Rivers died in New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital on Thursday Afternoon. Her daughter Melissa Rivers issued a statement obtained by PEOPLE Magazine: “It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers,” she said. “She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother. Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated,” she continued. “My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
Rivers had gone into a medically-induced coma after going into cardiac arrest during a routine throat procedure. Early in the morning on Wednesday, it seemed like things were making a turn around for Rivers as she was taken out of intensive care.
Known as a no holds bared comedian, Rivers brought her same confidence and feistiness to the red carpet when she would interview celebrities for E! asking the now famous question “Who are you wearing?” She then pretty much took over E! in 2010 with “Fashion Police” which she co-hosted with Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne and George Kotsiopoulos. She was known for her controversy, but admired for her honesty.
Many celebrities have taken to Twitter to express their sadness over Joan Rivers passing.
