MAKEUP: We confess, despite our earlier hopes, Oscars hair and makeup was not all we had hoped it to be. The unspoken dictum of smoky eyes and glossy nude lips was evidently still in full effect.  Yet we fell pretty hard for Jennifer Lawrence’s look, an elegant confection from Dior makeup artist Jillian Dempsey. It was the perfect complement to the heartbreakingly gorgeous Christian Dior Couture gown Jennifer wore.

Dempsey told Allure’s Beauty Report of the look:

“Since the dress made such a big statement, we decided to keep the makeup pretty simple. I worked backwards. Normally, you would do the eyes and finish with the mascara (so the powder doesn’t fall on the lashes) but I did the opposite. I did her lashes first to see how much more shadow and liner we would even need. I am a big mixer so I basically mixed a bunch of shadows—grey, taupe, teal—and kept layering them until it was right. I added a little iridescent cream on her lower lashline and in the middle of her upper lids. We wanted to make her skin clean and glowy and use minimal makeup, nothing overly bronzed or tan. When we were finishing up, I put clear lip balm on her lips and everyone in the bathroom was like, “wow, that looks great.” Jennifer has very beautiful lips naturally and I decided that I didn’t want to change the color. But if you do nothing at all, you usually regret that once you see the pictures so I added a light Dior gloss with very faint pink tint. That was it. She looks gorgeous.”

HAIR: Here’s how Dove Celebrity Stylist Mark Townsend got J-Lawr’s hair red carpet ready.

“Jennifer Lawrence is a dream to work with, she is so unbelievably fun and inspiring.

For her Oscars hair style, I started by applying a few drops of Dove Nourishing Oil Care Anti-Frizz Serum to her damp hair and combed through. This serum is loaded with natural almond and coconut oils to give the hair extra moisture and shine.

Next, I added a large dollop of Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse to her hair and blow dried with a large round brush.

To give the hair texture and shine I added a nickel size of Dove Frizz-Free Shine Cream-Serum in my hands and then raked through the hair. Then, I took random pieces from each side and loosely twisted them and pinned them together at the back of the head with eight bobby pins in crosses.

Then, I took the remaining hair and gathered it into a loose playful bun and finished as always with Dove Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray.”

Somehow we can’t help but think that, even armed with these fine Dove products, we would not come away with locks anywhere approaching Jennifer’s. It’s never so simple, and the process never as “loose and playful” as stylists make it out to be, is it? But for those of you with greater hand-eye coordination, this should be a relative snap.
