When Kate Middleton wore an Issa London royal blue satin, kimono-inspired dress to announce her engagement to Prince William back in November 2010, demand for the brand exploded. The UK brand couldn’t make the wrap frocks fast enough to sate hoards of customers wanting a piece of the Duchess of Cambridge’s timeless elegance.
And while the Engagement Dress ship may have sailed, the line is about to get a whole lot more accessible. This morning Issa announced an upcoming collaboration with mass market retail bastion Banana Republic. The 40 piece collection will be available in 700 Banana Republic collection stores, as well as online.
Here’s a taste of what you can expect from the designs, as per Simon Kneen, Banana Republic’s creative director and executive vice president of design:
“We always love animal prints such as zebra and giraffe stripes. Issa took that and modernized it. I love that the collection is our world and their world.”
According to WWD:
Banana Republic Issa London features kimono, wrap-tie and pleated dresses in a variety of prints and solids. African-inspired accessories include gold nugget and cord necklaces, envelope clutches and patterned scarves. Prices range from $39 to $150. Kneen said an advertising campaign targeting print and radio will herald the collection’s arrival.
We’re left thinking the collection may share more DNA with Issa’s boho F/W 2013 collection than Kate’s blue dress, but only time will tell.
You’ll be able to shop Issa London x Banana Republic starting August 6.
