And now for some pretty not-shocking news, American Apparel’s Dov Charney has officially been fired from the company.
According to CNBC, the former CEO of the clothing company will be replaced by Paula Schneider as of January 5th.. Schneider has worked for Warnaco, Gores Group and BCBG Max Azria. “[Paula Schneider] has a reputation for improving the financial performance and operational efficiencies of numerous global fashion brands,” according to a statement by American Apparel’s board co-chairman Allan Mayer.
She is also the first female chief executive for American Apparel. The fact that a female will pretty much be running the company, is a huge deal, especially because of Charney’s supposed previous actions. Back in June, Charney was fired the first time because of an ongoing investigation of alleged misconduct. The misconduct included sexual harassment, wrongful termination complaints and even the accusation that Charney choked an employee.
There were rumors that Charney would stop at nothing to continue being a apart of the company he created, however, it seems like the powers that be outweigh him. Although, we’re sure he will fight his termination in court.
For now, what Charney will do next, no one knows. American Apparel is a huge company, and at one time was a coveted brand for, well, everyone. Perhaps he will create another clothing line, this time, leaving the harassment, choking and well, general weirdness in the past.
What do you think of Dov Charney’s termination?
