lip scrub

Let’s face it: the frigid weather is wreaking havoc on our skin right now (polar vortex, anyone?), and one of the hardest hit victims has got to be our lips. Gone are the days of a simple swipe of lip balm that keeps the moisture going for hours on end, the days of smoothly applying your favorite Retro Matte lipstick…the list goes on and on. So, when slathering your pout in Vaseline or cocoa butter just isn’t enough to soften that rough, dead skin, reach for this exfoliating and moisturizing lip scrub that only requires 3 ingredients and — bonus — is good enough to eat.

Here’s what you’re going to need:

1 Tbs. coconut oil
1 Tbs. honey
2 tsp. brown sugar

Here’s what to do:

First, make sure the coconut oil is soft, but not so much that it has become a liquid. It will need to be solid to serve as a binding agent, so refrigerating it for 10 minutes or so should do the trick. Mix the coconut oil and honey in a bowl, gradually adding the brown sugar. Apply the mixture to your lips and gently rub it in a circular motion with your fingertips for 10 seconds. Rinse and wipe away the scrub, or just lick away the sugar and leave the oil/honey on the lips for 10-20 minutes for deep-moisturizing benefits.
