Though we do love the ultra posed, rigid, and precisely timed photo shoots here at Haute Talk, it’s always nice to encounter something a little different. This Vogue UK shoot with Freja Beha Erichsen for the magazine’s January 2014 issue is a beautiful example of what fashion photographers can do to mix up the playing field of the industry and try a different approach than what most are taking.
Cass Bird never fails to do things a big differently than her peers, capturing what seems to be the natural, casual side to models. In this shoot, it’s almost as if she is shooting from the perspective of a close friend who somehow catches Beha Erichsen off guard by spontaneously taking a photo, a concept that is so often attempted but rarely achieved with as much grace and seeming effortlessness as Bird.
The impending doom of Winter Storm Hercules is making us particularly envious of Beha Erichsen’s outfits, which are styled by Francesca Burns. Loose and flowy yet structured pants and cropped tops remind us of a present-day take on the beach scene of the ’70s, and Bird’s vintage photography effects certainly don’t take away from that sentiment. Check out more from the shoot below.
