Carolina Herrera is one of the most incredible designers in the industry. So, naturally, she’s the only one who could really get away at throwing some major shade at Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez.
Herrera spoke with The Washington Post about style trends we’re seeing the red carpet, specially those naked dresses, and to say she is disappointed would be an understatement. “The almost naked! Oh God! They’re trying to get people to pay attention to them. In life, there should be a little mystery.”
When talking about the threesome, who all showed up to the 2015 Met Gala wearing dresses that left very little to the imagination, Herrera said they are taking away from their fashion icon statuses. “They’re supposed to be fashion icons and they’re not wearing anything,” Herrera said (exacerbated). “It’s an obsession now.”
Herrera isn’t wrong there. Lopez in particular is a huge fan of wearing sheer, barely-there gowns, as is Beyonce. From a regular person’s point of view, I could never wear those gowns or even dream of wearing them, so the whole fantasy that comes with celebrity style sort of goes out the window.
And while Herrera adds a sense of a sex appeal to her gowns quite often, she says it’s more about the beauty of a dress than getting a reaction. “For me, fashion is about originality, sophistication and beauty,” Herrera says. “I’m not in the fashion business; I’m in the beauty business.”
Amen to that.
