Fact: soon The Great Gatsby will open nationwide, the constant Gatsby chatter (Ed. note: Gatter?) will explode to an all-time high, and then—assuming it doesn’t implode the globe into some sort of over-the-top, Jay-Z filled black whole of sequins and gin—die down.

But for now, you’ll have to indulge us as we continue down this dark, dropwaisted road. The film had its premiere last night at Lincoln Center, and we’re still basking in the adorableness of Carey Mulligan, who wore a structured scarlet Lanvin number with black Brian Atwood pumps and Tiffany & Co. jewels. Most of all, we loved her pared-down makeup (all Chanel), pale pink lips and undone yet delicate tresses.

In a sea of looks at the premiere that teetered on costumey, we were pleasantly surprised to see Carey in such a modern, simple look. Stunning.
