It’s officially New York Fashion Week, so it makes sense that this week would also be the time that PEOPLE named its best dressed star of the year.  And the winner is… Reese Witherspoon!

Red carpet after red carpet, the 39-year-old actress has stunned, particularly earlier this year during award season. Witherspoon wowed in gowns by Tom Ford, Calvin Klein and David Koma. All of her looks were appropriate for the event she attended… and let’s face it, they were gorgeous.

When speaking of her style, Witherspoon said she draws inspiration from everyone from fellow celebrities to fellow moms. “There’s a mom in my school who’s incredibly stylish. My friend Marlien Rentmeester, she has a blog called Le Catch. She puts an H&M skirt with a T-shirt and a more expensive shoe and she looks great. And everybody’s always like, ‘Marlien where did you get that?’”

Witherspoon also noted that she’s true to her Southern roots, and stays very much aware of her small frame. “I always look at other short girls like Natalie Portman and Rachel Bilson and I’m like ‘What’s she wearing?’” says Witherspoon. “There are a few of us shorties out in the world.”

A few of our other favorite fashion girls made the list included Mindy Kaling, Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana and Kate Hudson.

What’s really interesting is hearing from the stars’ stylists who, for example, take in things such as the color of the celebrities hair, how parts of their bodies photograph and how to celebrate moments in their lives, including pre and post pregnancy, when it comes to picking a gown.

Last year, Taylor Swift won this coveted title.
