The all-around talented Barbra Streisand turns 72 today! But age means nothing when you’re this famed Hollywood icon — we’re sure she’s going to celebrate like she’s turning 21…or maybe 30.

On top of being among the best selling female artists and one of the few entertainers who have been awarded an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and a Tony Award, Barbra Steisand has always been known to push the fashion envelope. Seriously. This woman does not believe in limits when it comes to what she wears…and it’s certainly made her stand out.

While scrolling through, we recommend listening to “Barbra Streisand” by Duck Sauce to really get the full effect.

Barbra Streisand’s Style Evolution Throughout the 2000’s:

2001

We’d like to call this one “The Velvet Cat.” For the 53rd Annual Emmy Awards, Barbra showed us her love for velvet. We have to admit that the dress itself is a-okay since we own basically the same one from American Apparel.

Oscar Winner Robert Redford Poses For A Photograph With Actress Barbra Streisand After H

It’s a gorgeous piece, really. Every detail works well together: the beads, the fringe, and of course, there’s velvet.

Barbra Streisand And James Brolin Attend Los Angeles Premiere Of A Guy Thing

Barbra looks cute and cuddly with James Brolin at the premiere for ‘A Guy Thing.’ We can’t help but wonder if this is who inspired Miley to wear that Calvin Klein jacket to the Pre-Grammy Gala this year?

Showtime's Star Studded Bash - Arrivals

She might have realized that pink is a great color on her, but we’re not so sure this dress (or cape?) was the best style to go with…

Andre Agassi's 10th Grand Slam for Children - Show

At Andre Agassi’s 10th Grand Slam for Children show, Barbra shows us that all that glitters is not always gold. This gown and shawl combo might be our favorite of all. And that high slit definitely calls for some Angelina Jolie leg pose.

2007

We spy a beaded black gown with another striking slit, but we’re sad to see it hidden beneath all that pleating.

2008

23rd Annual Film And Television Music Awards - Show

Black has certainly become a trend for Barbra as she wears this shift dress to the 23rd Annual Film and Television Music Awards. But, wait. Is that the cat collar from 2001 we see?

Barbra Streisand's "Love Is The Answer" After Party

The awkward backdrop reminds us of picture day in elementary school. The actress combined pretty much all of her favorite things into one outfit for her “Love Is The Answer” after party: black, glitter, and yet another choker. All that’s missing is some velvet.

2010

82nd Annual Academy Awards - Backstage Arrivals

The many outfits of 2010 involved black, of course, but this one was our favorite. We’re proud of Barbra for adding a little touch of contrast with the ivory lace detailing and especially for wearing a real necklace. And that leg pop? Go, Barb! Angelina’s got nothing on you.

2011

ELLE's 18th Annual Women in Hollywood Tribute - Arrivals

Even in 2011, head-to-toe velvet was still a favorite for Barbra — please, take a moment to notice that her heels are also velvet. Hey, at least it’s not black, right?

2012

Premiere Of Paramount Pictures' "The Guilt Trip" - Arrivals

At the premiere of her movie “The Guilt Trip,” she looked particularly chic with co-star Seth Rogan. She chose a thicker, more heavily embellished choker, but we’re too in love with her snakeskin clutch to care.

Van Gogh Museum Editions Makes U.S. Debut At LA Art Show

After all these years, we can safely say that Barbra hasn’t aged much, but she has seemed to tone her style down just a little. She plays it safe in this casual black outfit, complete with a knit beret. This was in January, so what do you think her trend will be for this year — black, again?
