When we get facials, there’s a lot of squeezing and steaming and popping. But when you’re one of the most famous supermodels in the world, like Bar Refaeli, none of that applies when you’re looking for radiant skin.

The model posted a photo to her Instagram account on Tuesday of her face covered in a gold liquid face mask. Her caption appropriately read: “Gold.” According to E! Online, the mask is made of 24-carats, and the metal supposedly acts as an anti-inflammatory and anti-aging tool. However, The New York Times reported in 2010 that there isn’t really any scientific proof of this, and in fact IT can be harmful if you’re allergic. “At best, they do nothing, and at worst, they can give you irritation of the skin,” Dr. Judith Hellman, a dermatologist in New York City told the paper. “I would tell people to put that money into gold that they can wear around their neck or on their fingers.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of erm, unusual facials. Remember when Kim Kardashian got the The Vampire Facelift? OUCH! Or how about when Victoria Beckham supposedly used bird poop to clear up her skin?  YIKES!

While we wouldn’t mind having celebrity-worthy skin, we think we’ll stick to our good old esthetician and Sephora products to help us along. Head over to Bar’s Instagram to see more of her photos!
