“Like mother, like daughter” is how the saying usually goes, but Kim Basinger has chosen to take after her daughter this time, as the 60-year-old Oscar-winning actress and reputed model signed with IMG Models, the same agency that booked 18-year-old Ireland Baldwin earlier this year.
Basinger, who’s mother was also a model and actress, was spotted back in 1969 while representing Georgia at the Junior Miss beauty pageant. She was offered a modeling contract on the spot by Eileen Ford of Ford Models, but the then-16-year-old declined the offer, instead pursuing singing and acting at University of Georgia. Having been unable to shake the offer from her mind, she was off to New York a few months later to pursue modeling professionally.
She stuck with it until 1976 when she officially quit the modeling industry. “It was very hard to go from one booking to another and always have to deal with the way I looked,” Basinger once said. “I couldn’t stand it. I felt myself choking.” She moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting, but now, decades later, Basinger has felt the itch once again.
“We are proud to be working with a distinguished and talented actress such as Kim Basinger,” said Senior VP and Managing Director of IMG Models Ivan Bart to Variety . “Kim has a powerful appeal on screen that will lend itself as a strong asset for us to seek innovative partnerships across the modelling and entertainment platform for Kim.”
Basinger joins her daughter, Ireland Baldwin, who’s been making a name for herself in the industry over the past few years. Baldwin’s also signed with Two Management, and she’s landed a spread in ELLE‘s September 2013 issue (shown above left, next to her mother back in the day).
