Alexander Wang has collaborated with Dr. Dre to create their own collaborative take on the popular Beats headphones. The headphones come in Wang’s trademark matte black finish with pale gold accents, and they’re retailing for $449. Wang also designed a Beats portable speaker ($299) and smaller earbuds ($149). Unlike the big studio headphones, you can choose from a variety of colors for the in-ear headphones.
“For this collaboration with Beats by Dr. Dre, it felt right and a natural choice for me to give the Beats Studio headphones, Beats Pill, and Urbeats earbuds a clean, minimal look with a luxe sensibility,” Wang says.
He says that he’s been a fan of Beats by Dr. Dre for some time and uses them especially when he travels. Part of the reason he chose to do this collaboration is because he’s always been inspired by music. “I have always looked to music and musicians for inspiration and as collaborators because there is such a purity to their talent,” Wang says. “Different types of music can also transform how you interpret or understand a fashion, or film. It’s creating a story and translating a message.”
The collection makes for some great holiday gift ideas — they will be ready for sale, just in time, by December 16.
