The Golden Globes usually give us a look into who the year’s Oscar contenders may be, but it also gives us a glimpse into spring 2012 runway looks and how celebrities make them work on the runway. While some looks rocked the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton for the 2012 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards, others looked lack-luster and some just left us disappointed. Find out who we thought stole the show and who fell flat this year.
Best Dressed
Emma Stone rocks the red carpet this year in a gorgeous scarlet colored Lanvin gown. Paired with Lanvin shoes, the two-toned look gave Stone a sophisticated glamour-ready look without looking too out of character. The look was accompanied by Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a Cartier clutch, give the perfect accents to the elegant Lanvin gown. The side-swept part was a smart way to style Stone’s hair, to show off the beautiful tailoring on the shoulders.
Zooey Deschanel looks enchanting in this pearl embroidered Prada gown with a quirky green color, that matches both her eyes and personality! The custom gown worked beautifully for the New Girl star who’s simply sleek hair only needed a simple straight blowout to complete the red carpet look. Although quirky doesn’t always meet with chic in the middle of the road, in the case of Deschanel, it most certainly does.
Glitter and silver have been seen all over runways for Spring 2012 and Nicole Richie presents this trend with class and Old Hollywood glamour. Very Monroe meets Bardot with a bit of modern edge, Richie rocked that Julien Macdonald gown with her newly visible curves that make Nicole look more sexy than stick figure.
Kate Beckinsale is ethereal in this gorgeous gown with lace embroidered Roberto Cavalli, which embraces her curves as well as the spring 2012 trends. Sporting exquisite sparkling jewels from Lorraine Schwartz, Beckinsale wore an glamorous up-do to focus the attention on the crystals. Talked about across blogs as the best dressed of the Golden Globes, Kate Beckinsale had the full package at this award’s ceremony.
Worst Dressed
Although we love Angelina Jolie and Versace, for the 69th Annual Golden Globes, the combination of the two were not a match made in award show heaven. The two-toned gown seemed a bit harsh and just seemed to fall flat from her usual best-dressed self. The soft champagne color mixed with the red simply did not stand out against her complexion, and overall we expected more from the beautiful Angelina.
Lea Michele, what were you thinking? They say if you got it, flaunt it, but in this instance, it would of been better off if she subdued the look at bit. Even though this sequin and mesh number from Marchesa could be a fashion forward look for some, it seems to age the young actress – and not in a good way. The up-do looks a bit matronly on Michele, who should of stuck to showing off her long luxurious locks. Overall, this isn’t something we have ever seen the Glee star wearing, and hope not to have to see this again from the usual style icon.
Since Madonna has not been in attendance for the Golden Globes for the past 14 years, we really had high hopes for the material girl’s comeback on the red carpet. From the torso up, Madonna actually looks stunning and ageless as usual. However as we look at her complete look from top to bottom, this Reem Acra gown becomes an eye sore with an abundance of fabric, reminiscent of bedroom curtains.
Amanda Peet‘s look is absolutely horrendous this year. Although her hair and makeup look stunning as always, this Marc Jacobs number encompasses anything and everything that can go wrong on the runway. Not only does this look like a cheesy bridal gown, but it gives her an unflattering, almost childish shape that does absolutely nothing to make her look red carpet ready. Even her jewelry is a bit lackluster for the Golden Globes, sporting simple hoops and a bare neck. Unfortunately. this is one of the biggest fashion fails of the award season so far.
