It’s no secret that we here at Haute Talk love our nail art. We’re pretty avid fans, so we were beyond psyched when we saw that Harper’s Bazaar did an awesome piece about where we stand in the world of fashionable nails in the coming year. We’ve seen most of these trends on the runway, especially in the last few months, so we’re thinking the masses (that is, us people) will be dying to try out these styles on their own — we know we are. Check out the six biggest nail trends you’ll see this coming spring, and get going!
1. Stripes Galore
Stripes on nails blew up at the end of this year, so it is sure to carry into 2014, too. It’s the easiest way to jazz up your nails and add a little flair without being too over the top. Mix up directions, play with thickness, and try a variety of colors to change up your look from day to day.
2. Shiny (and Not So Shiny) Metallic
Metallic has blown up this year, beyond the nail art world. Ten years ago this probably would have been considered a fairly bold statement for your nails, but it has become its own understated look that will surely continue to trend in this coming year. Use it to spruce up an outfit to go out with friends, and you can even find subtler, more neutral shades of metallic that are more work-appropriate.
3. A Play on White
Black had the spotlight on nails some years back, but now it’s time for white to have a turn — and we love what we’ve seen so far. The ultimate blank canvas, white nails are the start of an amazing embellishment, from polka dots and stripes to swirls and designs. Since it goes with basically any outfit, you can’t really go wrong here, and we’re sure to see more renditions on the white nails in 2014.
4. Pastel Palettes
Pastel colors aren’t just for Easter. Designers loved playing around with pastel purples, teals, yellows, and oranges in 2013, so there’s bound to be a spin on the muted colors this coming year. Be careful with pastel palettes, though — while the colors are not exactly vibrant, they can still make a fairly bold statement that you’ll want to make wisely.
5. Moon Mani
We love this spin on the classic French manicure. Moon manis highlight the crescent of the nail bed instead, leaving you with a lot of creative possibilities for mixing colors, painting just the nail bed or even painting around the nail bed to leave the crescent shape blank. Depending on how you do it, it can be bold, simple, or elegant.
6. Elaborate Nail Art
Duh! This is a trend that we’ve been enjoying for a while and will continue to enjoy for eternity. One of our favorite nail artists is Miss Ladyfinger, who designs nail art after looks on the runway.
