We get it – it’s hot. Temps have been in the high 90s for the past few weeks, and we are ready for some relief! Unfortunately, according to our dear friend Al Roker and The Weather Channel, “All of this extreme heat is just going to continue.”
Here at Haute Talk, we love having a little shimmer to highlight the latest and greatest in fashion – but we don’t love overwhelming shine due to the sweltering temps and high humidity. We have 5 shine-stopping products that are guaranteed to make your life a little less sweaty and shining in the coming weeks.
1. Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 40, $14–$54
Did you know that mineral sunscreens (containing either zinc or titanium dioxide) reduce shine? We didn’t either. Not only are you getting protection from those UV rays, you’re able to reduce that sweaty shine we talked about. Sunscreen is one of the easiest forms of protection for your body (if you must be in the sun), so don’t leave the house without applying. Keep your skin looking healthy and fresh with some protection.
2. Amala Purifying Mattifier, $48
Just as we often use sprays and products to help treat our hair against high heat coming from straighteners, wands, and more, we need to be protecting our skin! This mattifier contains shine-absorbing ingredients, including rice powder and zinc PCA. In terms of appearance, your skin will look smooth and help control oil production. Maybe you won’t have to buy as many oil absorbing sheets? Don’t worry be worried though- this won’t dry out your skin!
3. Mychelle Fruit Enzyme Mist, $27.99
Anything to cool off for a bit is sure to bring some relief from the sweltering temperatures, but be cautious about the shine! When trying to take the shine down a few notches, make sure the mist you choose includes ingredients like witch hazel, willow bark, or in this product’s case, exfoliating fruit enzymes. These ingredients help regulate oil production and keep pores clean and clear. This product might have to be our next purchase…
4. Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask, $55
What’s better than a pore-declogger, a deep cleanse, and clear skin that feels refreshed? Yeah, we can’t think of anything either. Exfoliating masks help to clear your face of dead skin cells, which can leave your face looks dry and flaky. Treat yourself to an easy and quick exfoliating mask after work one day- the lactic acid, alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids, or active fruit enzymes that are often found in exfoliating masks are sure to leave your skin feeling refreshed and free of the excessive amounts of sunscreen required during the summer.
5. Osea Ocean Cleansing Mudd, $16–$42
Fun fact: most facial mud baths are, in fact, clay. Clay is now your new best friend: it pulls the grimy layers of crud from both your skin and pores (bye bye blackheads!), and brings in the nutrients you want.
We think this weekend is the perfect time to try out these new techniques for summer shine control. There are only a few more days in this work week – start planning a spa weekend for you and a few friends, and try out these techniques at home! It’s going to be a hot one, so please be sure to protect your mind, body, and spirit from the overwhelming heat index temps.
